Welcome to the Kindergarten Overview
Kindergarten is the year we build the first reading tools.
This page is a list of those skills.
Click a button to see how to teach it at home.
Every child moves at a different pace. If your child is older than 5 or 6 and these skills are still shaky, start here anyway. The grade on the paper matters less than a strong start.
Name Uppercase and Lowercase Letters
Learn the sound each letter makes.
Hear and identify the beginning sounds in words.
Write letters correctly.
Daily Phonics Charts
Not sure where to start?
You can also check to see which letter sound they know out of order.
You can progress though the steps starting with the first 3 and then gradually add the next steps as your child is ready.
