5.How to Practice Reading Comprehension
Reading comprehension can sometimes be a challenge, the secret is not harder books but rather giving children the confidence to understand the story in front of them.
That is why I made Leann’s Reading Book Club. Each book study has a short chapter-by-chapter booklet and hands-on activity that makes the story feel real. The routine stays the same from book to book, so you are not reinventing school every week.
Read a little. Talk about it. Do the activity. Create a fun page to add to a Reading Response Journal your child will love looking back on.
Routine is the magic. The same simple steps, done often, grow stronger readers..
Reading should be fun.
To get started, you'll need just a few simple supplies.
Supplies:
A composition notebook with primary (pre-primer) paper (available at Walmart for about $3.00 or amazon) I recommend one for you and one for your child.
A copy of the featured book.
The downloadable comprehension booklet.
The downloadable activity pages for that book.
A downloadable page of dog bones or other writing prompt when needed
Scissors, glue, and a pencil, ( and sometimes colored markers and or crayons)
The comprehension booklet is printed as a double copy. One copy is for you to model with your child, and one copy is for your child to complete. Learning together helps children become confident readers.
Feel free to put your own cute picture on the front. You could actually put a picture of your child on the front if you like.
