Learn the Alphabet Letter Names

The goal is simple: your child can name a letters even when it is not in ABC order.

What you need

• An ABC chart or banner (dollar store is fine)

• Hang it low, or cut it apart and put it on the floor

• Letter cards if you have them

Daily practice (about 5 minutes)

1. Sing the ABC song.

2. Point to each letter and say its name.

3. Mix a few letters and ask, “What letter is this?”

4. If it is easy and fun, say the alphabet backward. Skip this if it causes tears.

A Quick Check: Which Letters Does Your Child Remember?

From time to time, check which letter names are solid and which ones still need more practice.

Learning letter names and sounds can be done together. You do not have to know all the letter names before starting to learn letter sounds.

Mix the letters up. Then put them back in order. That is the game.
